For the past month Montenegrins have demonstrated against their government by organizing large-scale protests in the capital Podgorica and setting up tents near parliament. Early on 17 October the police removed all tents, prompting the main opposition bloc Democratic Front to organize one of the largest protests yet. Unlike previous protests this month, this protest was broken up by police using tear gas, and three opposition leaders and several others were injured. The parliament's security committee will hold an extraordinary session to examine whether police used excessive force at opposition rallies. Meanwhile the Democratic Front said it will organize protests across the country if Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic does not resign, establishing a deadline for the resignation on the 24th.
