On 18 January the Macedonian Parliament, in the absence of the main opposition Social Democratic Party (SDSM), voted to dissolve Parliament and appointed an interim government. In the same vote Parliament also approved the resignation of Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski (VMRO DPMNE), a requirement that is part of the EU backed crisis deal. The Parliament’s vote paves the way for snap elections on April 24th. However, opposition fears these elections will not be free and fair.
